Location:
Oberpfaffenhofen is located about 20km/12.5miles south west of Munich. It is the hilly countryside around Lake Starnberg (Starnberger See) and Lake Ammer (Ammersee). Just like the two large lakes that lie closely side-by-side, the rural and grand lifestyles on the lakes co-exists harmoniously. Lake Ammer is also called the "Peasant's Lake" and Lake Starnberg fringed with ancient villas is known as the "Gentlemen's Lake". The Monastery of Andechs, not only a popular place of pilgrimage but also famous for its beer, lies between the two lakes atop. Not to forget the three smaller lakes: "Wörthsee", "Pilsensee", and "Wesslingersee", which offer the possibility of swimming and sailing in the summer and ice-hockey and skating in the winter. From the close setting of these lakes, the region is called "Five Lakes Country".
Only about 60km/37miles away you come to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the city of the fourth Olympic winter-games. By building "Schloss Linderhof" and "Schloss Neuschwanstein" King Ludwig II of Bavaria constructed fabulous fairytale palaces that were furnished with a host of technical gadgets despite its romantic appearance.
The "Oktoberfest", known as the most popular season in Munich, takes place for two weeks every autumn (this year between September 17th and October 3rd). Guest gather from all over the world to party as heavily as they can.
